What Does CEMA Do?

  • We define, interpret, and promote to the general public educational library media programs in Connecticut.
  • We serve as a cooperative agency to bring together the profession, the State Department of Education, regional and national associations, and others interested in library media.
  • We encourage and promote professional development, networking, and opportunities to present workshops and to publish in the field of educational media.
  • We support the Nutmeg Children's book Award.
  • We promote reading and information literacy as life-long pursuits for all students.

  • We provide professional support to practitioners facing censorship and intellectual freedom issues.
  • We sponsor annual awards and mini-grants for outstanding members and supporters of the profession, including a scholarship for MLS students.
  • We publish CEMA-gram, a monthly newsletter reporting on board meetings, programs, and timely information.
  • We publish CEMA Update, a yearbook covering our annual conference and highlighting major events.
