The Connecticut Association of School Librarians offers annual awards to recognize excellence in library media programs in Connecticut. All nominees must be certified library media specialists, CASL members, and employed in Connecticut.
Application/nomination forms for all awards are mailed with the February CASLgram. Please use the common Award Nomination / Application form for all awards except the Program Award, which requires a special application. At this time, all applications must be printed as hard copy, filled out, and submitted by U.S. mail.

Nominations for 2008 Awards must be postmarked by April 15, 2008; Applications by June 1, 2008.
The Awards Committee, consisting of volunteers from among the previous year's winners, will notify the winners in September. Award winners for 2008 are invited to be guests of CASL at an awards presentation in the fall of 2008.

Program Award
For outstanding instructional units of study or programs planned and implemented by the library media specialist in the past school year. The program or unit of study may have been in collaboration with colleagues, public librarians, parents, and/or students. The recipient(s) of this award will be expected to present a visual display that documents the project at the Annual Conference. One Program Award recipient will also receive a $500 stipend if selected for the Follett Creativity Award, presented for an especially original and creative program.
The award recipient (s) will receive a plaque.
For all other awards, please use the common Award Nomination / Application form.
Carlton
W. H. Erickson Award
To honor a person who has made an auspicious beginning in media services through
action, philosophy, speech, and a dedication to the goals and principles of
the media profession. The person should have no more than five years in the
profession.
CASL
Administrator's Award
To honor an administrator who provides necessary support for improving media services through encouragement and adequate funding for program maintenance and improvement. Traditionally, one award has been given to a building level administrator and another to a district level administrator.
The award recipient (s) will receive a plaque.
Hilda and John
Jay Award
To honor a member who has made a significant contribution to the profession
through publication of an article or book, implementation of a professional
development activity, significant work on a national-level committee, teaching
of a graduate-level course for library media teachers, or utilization of a new
technology to streamline CASL's operation.
Pellerin Classroom
Teacher Award
To honor a classroom teacher who participates in the necessary
steps to establish an instructional partnership with the library media specialist.
CASL Service
Award
To honor a person who has made an outstanding contribution
to CASL.
Rheta A. Clark
Award
For extensive service (at least 10 years) in media in
the educational field and outstanding contributions in the media field to students,
faculty, lay citizens, and/or instructional program.
Film and/or Video Award
CASL, Inc. offers this annual award to student (s) for creating an exceptional film or video product. Use the Film and/or Video Award Nomination Form. Nominations must be received by April 15, 2008. Applications must be received by June 1, 2008. The nominator must be a certified library media specialist and a member of CASL.
To honor students who demonstrate in a film and / or video production a level of information and technology literacy skills that will enable them to:
The award recipient (s) will receive an honorarium of $250 per year donated by Mr. Johnson and Mr. Searle and a plaque.
For this award, Marc Johnson (mdjmd@aol.com), Charles Searle (chuck.searle@aaco.com ) and the Awards Committee will select the recipient.
